Curated Art Size Guide | Finding Your Perfect Fit

Art is the soul of a home, but finding the right proportion can feel challenging. At Welstell, we believe that well-chosen artwork should harmonize with your furniture, anchor the room, and reflect your personal aesthetic.

Use this guide to discover the ideal art dimensions for every space in your home.

Home Space-by-Space Recommendation

1. Living Room: The Statement Anchor

Placement Focus: Above the sofa, fireplace mantel, or main accent wall.
The Design Rule: Your artwork should span 60% to 75% of the furniture width below it to maintain visual balance.
Personalized Recommendations:
- Large Sectional / Wide Sofa (84"+): Go bold with an oversized statement piece (48" x 60" or 40" x 60") or a dramatic diptych/triptych set.
- Standard Sofa (72" – 80"): Perfect for a large horizontal canvas (36" x 48") or a balanced pair.
- Cozy Apartment Sofa (<72"): A medium-to-large vertical or square statement piece (30" x 40" or 36" x 36") creates height and elegance.

2. Dining Room: Setting the Mood

Placement Focus: Centered above the dining sideboard, buffet table, or main dining wall.
The Design Rule: Aim for the artwork to match approximately 2/3 of the width of the buffet or dining table it sits above.
Personalized Recommendations:
- Horizontal Landscapes / Abstracts: Ideal for stretching across long sideboards. Recommended size: 30" x 40" or 36" x 48".
- Warm & Inviting Tones: Choose textured, immersive art that enhances the dining atmosphere and encourages conversation.

3. Bedroom: Serene Sanctuaries

Placement Focus: Above the headboard of the bed.
The Design Rule: The width of the art should occupy roughly 50% to 60% of the bed frame (narrower than the sofa rule to keep the bedroom feeling restful rather than heavy).
Personalized Recommendations:
- King / Queen Bed: A grand horizontal canvas or a soft-toned vertical pair. Recommended size: 30" x 40" or 36" x 48".
- Vibe Check: Opt for calming color palettes, minimalist textures, or soothing botanical themes to promote rest.

4. Entryway & Hallway: The First Impression

Placement Focus: Narrow walls, console tables, or transitional hallways.
The Design Rule: Verticality is key to drawing the eye upward in narrow or vertical-heavy zones.
Personalized Recommendations:
- Above a Console Table: A medium vertical piece (24" x 36" or 30" x 40") paired with a small lamp or vase.
- Narrow Hallway / Pillar: A slender vertical format (20" x 30" or 24" x 36") adds instant architectural interest.

Quick Reference: Standard Welstell Sizes

Room Space	Recommended Art Shape	Ideal Dimensions
Living Room	Oversized / Horizontal	36" x 48" (approx. 90 x 120 cm)
Dining Room	Horizontal / Square	30" x 40" or 36" x 36"
Bedroom	Horizontal / Diptych	30" x 40" (Centered above headboard)
Entryway	Vertical / Statement	24" x 36" (Perfect for console tables)

Pro Styling Tips from Welstell

The Golden Hanging Height: Always hang the center of the artwork at eye level—roughly 57 to 60 inches (145–150 cm) from the floor. If hanging above furniture, leave about 6 to 10 inches of breathing room between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame.
When in Doubt, Go Larger: One common regret is buying art that is too small for the wall. A slightly larger canvas creates an upscale, museum-like gallery feel.
